Pier View is a luxury apartment building on Herne Bay seafront

Urban & Rural, working with DHA Planning, have secured full planning and conservation area consent for a modern new build apartment building on the prominent seafront location in Herne Bay.

The site is located within the conservation area of Herne Bay, adjacent to the Grade II Listed Georgian Terrace which was part of Samuel Hacker’s ambitious master plan for the town back in 1830.

The building was designed by taking architectural forms found in the conservation area and articulating them to create a modern design. An approach which the Conservation Team at Canterbury City Council found to be acceptable and recommended the scheme for approval.

At pre-application stage, Canterbury City Council’s Planning Officer reported the site was considered not to be appropriate for a residential development. The scheme was developed to address the comments raised and submitted as a full planning application. At the end of the consultation period the Conservation Officer reported the scheme submitted would be detrimental to the conservation area and recommended a refusal.

Urban & Rural responded to the issues raised and worked with the planning officer during the application process. Full Planning and Conservation Area approval has been granted by Canterbury City Council and the site owner has sold the site with consent.
