Hollowshore Services is a bespoke commercial architecture project in Faversham by Urban & Rural, supporting the redevelopment of Hollowshore’s satellite yard at Oare Creek.
Project Overview
Led by second-generation craftsman Dan Tester, Hollowshore Services is one of the last specialist timber boatyards in the UK. It is renowned for the restoration and maintenance of historic vessels such as Thames Barges. With demand for these rare skills increasing, the yard is planning a new workshop that replaces outdated facilities with a sustainable and modern environment.
Planning
Preserving traditional techniques and creating opportunities for a third generation of boatbuilders. This project aims to ensure the future of specialist maritime services in Kent. Designed with sensitivity to the surrounding marshland, the scheme enhances the local landscape while introducing essential welfare facilities for the workforce.
Outcome
This project focuses on safeguarding a disappearing craft and securing a legacy for generations to come. Urban & Rural are proud to support Hollowshore Services through to completion, helping ensure that the finished facilities reflect the design ambition established from the outset. This is a great example of commercial architecture in Faversham that celebrates local heritage through contemporary design.
