Primary Care Extension – NHS England and Kent and Coastal CCG

A successful extension project

Urban and Rural were pleased to serve as the lead consultant and architect for the extension of Newton Place Surgery in Faversham.  We provided contract administration and principal designer duties, taking the project from RIBA stage 0 to 6.

Funded by a 66% grant from NHS England, the project involved the construction of eight new primary care consulting rooms, along with support spaces and a new lift.

Located in a conservation area, the project faced complex planning constraints and required demonstrating that the building could be delivered within the budget parameters set by NHS England

The building was constructed during the Covid-19 pandemic which presented challenges in procuring the materials and labour. Despite these difficulties, the building was successfully completed within the desired construction cost and contract timeframe.

A huge thank you to our clients, the Partners of Newton Place Surgery, for their input into the success of the scheme, and to the main contractor, Coleman and James. We had a great team on this project, including Hawden for M&E design, Crofton for structural design and Danniel Connal Partnership for quantity surveying.
